ABOUT ME ~ written February 11, 2005

Well let's see where do I begin to tell you about me.  I am a 57 year old grandmother,
but my grands call me Mee Maw, and that is the name I have heard the most for almost 8 years.  My oldest, Chris, will be 8 in May, his  younger brother, Jason, will be 5 in November, and they both have a big brother
Kyle,  who is 17.  UPDATE, a grand daughter born
on Thanksgiving Day, 2007, Taylor Nicole.

My daughter Casey is the mother and step mother of the boys, and my son, Derek, is a batchelor.  We are a close knit family and I enjoy my grandchildren very much.

The passion, after Jesus, in my life is music, I love all kinds of music, and I have been playing piano and organ since I was a little girl.  I love to sing, but haven't done much of either since Fibromyalgia has took residence in my body.  Those of you who have it understand what I am talking about.
I was the organist in my church, until my hands and feet stopped doing what I wanted them to do.  I have been retired from that for a year, and since then, the Lord has blessed me to be able to use my creative talents in another way.

I have only owned my computer for 2 years, and before that knew nothing about one, and had no idea why I was buying one when I decided to purchase one.  Since that time, I have met so many wonderful new friends, found a husband and extended family, and built four websites, and I am now doing my fifth one.  I have wonderful christian friends that have taught me much, and the Lord has really blessed me to be able to comprehend and learn things on my own.

This venture has opened up an entire new world to me.  I can listen to beautiful music, express myself in verse and enjoy and be blessed in the process.   I have just fallen in love with all the above, and can't hardly remember not doing this.  So never say never, because when the Lord has plans for you, and you allow him to lead you in them, you will find out different.

So please keep coming by to visit, and hopefully find something new each week.  I have lots of friends that write beautifully and will be publishing their work here as well.

God Bless you and keep you in His care, Love you, Shy

I would like to say a few things about my dear grandmother,  I don't remember calling her that, I always referred to her as grandmama, and I think most of her grandchildren did.  You know what they say, about not appreciating someone enough until they are gone.  I do remember spending many hours with her as a child, and feeling so very loved by her.  She was a kind and very gentle spirit.  I never remember her raising her voice, except to call you in because it was too late or it was time to eat.  She always was a very good cook, and enjoyed keeping her little home very clean and spotless.  I always looked forward to spending summer vacations at her home.  She lived in town at that time, in a historic part of eastern North Carolina, called Little Washington, and Washingto, D. C. was the reason for calling it that.  My grandparents lived across from the Pamlico River where there was a lumber planing mill.  Sometimes we would sit on her front porch and watch the barges come in to unload trees that had been logged, to make lumber.  They also made light poles for the city and county, and their was always the smell in the air of the chemicals they treated them with to make them withstand the elements.  Well I could go on and on for hours, but I do not have the space or the time.
Grandmama Nora went to rest with Jesus in l998, just short of her 102nd birthday.  she will always be missed

When I first decided I wanted to open a poetry site, she came to my mind, and the beautiful picture that she left us with of herself at 15 years of age.  I decided that I wanted her picture on the homepage of Granny Barrs first website, and she graced the cover there for about a year.   I have had many lovely comments about her and about what a beautiful young woman she was.
She and Papa Levi, raised 6 children, one of which was my mother.  They are all deceased now, and the family is still large, there are great, great, great grandchildren now in our family, including all the cousins that we have.

I would like to invite everyone to go and visit our family site, that is dedicated to both Papa Levi and Grandma Nora, and all their descendants.  We still have a ways to go on the website, but there is lots of interesting history and loads of pictures there to see, along with wonderful music.
