| KITTENS IN A BASKET Kittens are so adorable and sweet Furry little balls of pure joy. They also can be rather neat. But girls I think, more than boys. They are self sufficient As long as they have food. Some are very playful and cute And some can be rather rude. My daughter, Casey, wanted one But her dad had already said no, But to his surprise it was made known That soon a kitty would make a show. . Casey rode the bus to school Each and every day, She enjoyed this very much Because she could play. Well, one day her driver had a plan His cat had a litter that needed a home. Hidden away beside the man Sat a basket of kitties, soon to be shown. So as each child would exit the bus He would put a kitty in their hand, Not all the kids liked them very much But one I know, thought it was grand. Knowing full well what he had done But once she brought her home There was no turning back, for this one So off to buy food and the proper throne. After much thinking and hesitation It was decided, "Buffy" was the name So dad had to give consideration And decided no one was to blame. Buffy was a gray and white tabby A beautiful little feline With mascara lined eyes, nothing shabby She was perfection, so fine. But looks are deceiving sometimes Because she had a mean disposition. The only time she showed any love Was when she was in the kitchen. She was a good mouser without claws We had them removed before we knew Our plans had a few flaws She liked it outside, and stayed out of view A good hunter she was to be clawless And her trophies she always shared. Her methods of madness were flawless And she never seemed to care. She lived all nine of her lives, An accident claimed her left ear, But she never complained or cried And never got lost or disappeared. She lived to be a ripe old age Sixteen she was when she died. That little kitten that came from a basket Stole our hearts when she was alive. Yes, kittens are adorable and sweet Sometimes they're even friendly, But Buffy was never like that completely She was a clawless, one earred meany ! Written by Shirley Barr February 27, 2005 |
